Win I ♥ BWnT VIP cards
I love spicy things! That's why when you check what's inside our fridge, you'll see atleast three kinds of peppers or chili in it.
One afternoon, my wife and I found ourselves dining in at Buffalo Wings 'n Things in Ortigas Home Depot and we shared pounds of hot and spicy buffalo wings. We never cared that moment if we gain some pounds.
For sure, we'll be back anytime soon. For those who wants to try the great food at BWnT, join this cool (or should I say hot) promo at dashashash.wordpress.com where five (5) I ♥ BWnT VIP cards ,will be giving away and will be shipped for free to the winners’ doorsteps.
The card comes with coupons with a cumulative value of up to P1,250. Some of the perks of a BWnT VIP cardholder includes discounts, rebates, freebies when used on cardholder’s birthday month. There are more freebies with a minimum single receipt of delivery and/or dine-in purchase of an amount specified in a particular coupon. Most importantly, a cardholder is entitled to exclusive monthly promotions as announced in Buffalo’s Wings N’ Things Facebook fan page.

I Love Being a Teacher because...
This essay writing contest is exclusive for teachers, both from public and private schools, who are currently teaching in the Philippines. Also you should be 22-65 years old. So definitely I am not qualified even if I make a career shift into teaching since I am just 21... hehe.
Seriously, this is a great contest and you should encourage all the teachers you know because they definitely have a lot of stories to tell. This is also a tribute of sort to these heroes that are often portrayed as "titser na nagbebenta ng longgonisa" or "si mam na namamalo"
We have three teachers in the family, all are my in-laws, and I will definitely ask them to consider this contest.
The mechanics: Entries must be written in English (12 pts Time Roman font) and not more than 1000 words. A participant can send as many entries as they want until October 5, 2010 (5:00 pm only). Send your entries via email to MByouthsection@gmail.com with the subject: I Love Being a Teacher because...
This contest is sponsored by the Manila Bulletin, HP and Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. Winners will be contacted via email and will be awarded with special prizes.
Although the prizes are not indicated, Manila Bulletin is such a generous company when it comes to giving of prizes. The last essay writing contest they had, they gave away three (3) Samsung laptops for three months.

Show me your oldest photo contest
I found this cool contest by Yugatech in cooperation with i-DigiWorld just this morning and made me pause for a few minutes reminiscing of the past. I am just a sucker of anything retro and oldies.
The reason being is that they are asking contestants to share the oldest photo they can find where they are included. The prize to the grand winner is a 14-megapixel GE X5 digital camera Here's my entry:
This contest runs until September 30. Just post your photo in your blog or any photo sharing site and leave the link HERE. Follow i-DigiWorld on Twitter or Facebook.

This is me doing my "I Have a Dream" speech during the graduation rites of the San Miguel Kindergarten Batch '81 in Pasig City. I can barely breath because of the tightly looped bow tie on my neck and the smell and weight of 1-kilo Sampaguita given to me by my mother, ninang and Titas. As indicated on my diploma, the event was held on May 9, 1981. |

FREE Admission to Pormang PBA Fashion Show
I've been a basketball fan from the very moment I learned how to dribble the ball. I religiously follow my teams from the NBA, UAAP and of course, the PBA.
My all-time NBA fave is Charles Barkley and has a huge collection of "anything Barkley" and since he has retired for almost a decade now, I consider it a great find every time I stumbled upon any Sir Charles item whether online or in shops. Now, I am a Dwayne Wade follower. One reason is that The Flash is a Wade which is actually Barkley's middle name. But of course, this Miami Heat star is one of the most athletic and gifted cager in the league.
In the PBA, I am a certified die-hard fan of Barangay Ginebra since the the 80's. I still have with clippings of Sen. Robert Jaworki and his boy's exploit since the 1980's. It survived Ondoy.
Today, I never missed any PBA game as long Mr. Fearless Ronald Tubid is playing. I have followed the career of this Ginebra spitfire guard since his college years 'coz I am also a University of the East alumnus. Then he went to play with Welcoat in the PBL and saw almost every FREE games held at the Caruncho Stadium (Pasig) before he was drafter by Shell in the pro league.
It has been 7 years since I last saw "The Saint" in person and would love to see him again. Then I saw this great announcement from Araneta Center:
Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) stalwarts try their hands on the ramp this time as they showcase their modeling skills in a special fashion show billed as “Pormang PBA.”
Sixteen of the top players representing the league’s 10 member teams have been tapped for the event scheduled on September 26 at the Araneta Coliseum parking lot.
Staged in cooperation with Binibining Pilipinas Charity Inc., the show is set for 6 pm. Joining the PBA superstars in the three-hour extravaganza are 2010 Ms. Universe 4th runner-up Venus Raj and the rest of this year’s Binibining Pilipinas winners.
Leading the cast of player-models are Derby Ace’s James Yap and Rico Maierhofer, Barangay Ginebra’s JC Intal and Ronald Tubid, Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood and Doug Kramer, San Miguel Beer’s Arwind Santos, and Jarred Dillinger of Talk ‘N Text.
Also parading on the ramp are Wesley Gonzales and the rookie pair of Severino Baclao and Rabeh Al-Hussaini of Air21, Alaska’s L.A. Tenorio and Elmer Espiritu, Aris Dimaunahan of Barako Bull, Powerade’s Francis Allera, and Mac Mac Cardona of rookie franchise Meralco.
The PBA stars will don formal, casual, and sporty wear. The activity ushers in the league’s 36th season under new commissioner Chito Salud. “This will showcase the other side of our players apart from basketball, so that fans can see them in a different light, and not just their basketball skills,” Salud said.
A street party will follow after the show and admission is absolutely FREE!
Now, my only wish is that I can get a good seat to view Tubid and the show. I also want my wife to meet him in person and see for herself why I dig this guy who I believed is a really nice guy beneath the bad boy image and tattoos all over his body.

Save the World, Win a Sony Playstation 3
I will forever be a kid in front of a Sony Playstation.
I used to own the a PS 1 unit and even used it in a mini business along with another unit from a friend. I never knew whatever happened to my unit after I left for a 2-year stint to work abroad. In Saipan, it's always a game day every Friday night with some friends I met there who owns a PS 2.
Huh... those were the days.
MTV is giving away a brand new Plasystation 3 to that lucky person who can give the best answer to their question tied-in with Milla Jovovich's Resident Evil : Afterlife.
What would you do to help Alice save the human race?
You have until September 23 to send in your answer via www.mtvasia.com.

FREE Cherry Mobile Phone from ASUS
When I purchase a product, especially gadgets, I see to it that I'll get a brand I can depend on and a service center convenient to my place just in case I need some assistance in the future. And of course, being a promo-holic, I also consider if they have some add-ons or FREE stuff bundled with it.
A few months ago, ASUS gave away FREE Nokia phones for every purchase of participating laptops which a friend availed. This month of September, Asus will again throw in a colored mobile phone unit with FM radio when you buy an ASUS’ RT-N13u router.
The ASUS RT-N13U wireless router is the latest in the line of quality routers from ASUS that aims to provide users with a host of easy-to-use wireless features. With more wireless connectivity options, the ASUS RT-N13U can also support 24/7 downloads—even when the PC is turned off. It is also a stylish performer that complements any home or office with its clean design and hidden internal antenna.
It also has EZ All-in-One Printer feature that allows multiple users to share printers and scanners without a dedicated server managing the process. It increases office efficiency by handling multiple printing requests simultaneously. Additionally, convenient scanning can be done on the printers with auto-installation of drivers. No loading of additional programs is required. For easy configuration, EZ All-in-One Printer supports and detects all the major printer brands on the market.
This promo is on going until September 30 in all Luzon authorized ASUS wireless resellers. Customers just need to present their official receipt in any of the following redemption areas to avail of the free phone:
ASUS Concept Store, SM North EDSA
ASUSworld, Megamall
PC Gilmore, Gilmore
Visit ASUS Philippines at Facebook for more details.

Want to win a pair of Adam Lambert Concert tickets?
10-10-10 in the calendar only happens in a lifetime unless you can live up to 101, you might still get a chance to experience it once again... but heck, if you're still living at the age of 101, you might want to be wrapped in calendars or newspaper and be thrown into the river.
What is fun at 101? Don't ask me back I'm just 33.
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is 10-10-10 is such a very rare event that you should do something extra ordinary that day like watch an Adam Lambert concert perhaps?
Well, if your definition of extra ordinary is same as mine, just answer this simple question and you might win a pair of tickets to the concert of the 2009 American Idol runner up on October 10, 2010 at SM MOA Concert Grounds:
Question: What’s your favorite Adam Lambert song and why?
You may send in your answers to info@circuitmag.net together with your contact details. Circuitmag.net is also giving away other cool stuff this month of September like Gold's Gym GCs and bottles of Jack Daniels. Just visit their official website for more details.

On-the-Spot Contests at The Best Anime 2010
I'm sure at some point of your life, you got hooked with Anime.
Well, I'm still a fan but a lot of things occupied the top spot of my priority list that's why watching an episode of a Jap cartoon either on TV or net is something I really missed doing.
Well, for those who share the same sentiments, here's a good alternative to compensate for the lost time you should be spending with the Gohans and Samurai Xs of the world. Primetrade Asia and Hero will stage The Best Anime 2010 at the SMX Convention center, MOA, Pasay City.
The day-long event which will run from 10 am to 6 pm will feature Cosplay competition (of course), Dubbing competition, seminars and workshops and other exciting events.
Cool prizes awaits the winners for the following on-the-spot contests: Photography, Anime Trivia, Drawing, on-site blogging and online gaming and more. You can also play PS3 and X360 games for FREE.

Modus Operandi sa QC Post Office?
Please share this hanggang makarating sa Post Master ng QC Cental Post Office
Well, commercial break muna sa mga promos and contest. Just want to share to my readers a forgettable experience at the QC post office today.
This is no fiction. This happened in the morning of September 7, 2010.
This morning, I came out from the Quezon City Central Post Office feeling that I have been unfairly served by three staff of the government institution. Well, I just went there to pick up a package from Hong Kong . I thought all is smooth after paying the Php 40 custom fee but it’s not. A certain Girlie Umali of Window 37 said that the item is subject to Php 1,457 VAT on the imported item, which was a wrist watch, even if it’s just a gift from an overseas based company. I told them that I did not buy it. It's a gift. Hindi ako negosyante. It’s just for personal use.
But they won’t release it unless I pay the said amount. Then, a man came into the picture and immediately took the item from me while I am still checking my watch, and made me feel that as if I just stole it from them. Girlie even gave me her office number (928-1667) in case I already have the money. Hmm... parang na-hostage... este nakidnap bigla ang relo ko.
Good thing, an “angel” approached me and said, “Malaki ba yung fee? Ako na ang bahala kay, mam.”
This lady said that I can have the item for a lesser price but they won’t issue any receipt. We met at Php 500 just to get out of this “tiangge.”

Winners of Happy na, Birthday pa giveaway
Before I announced the winners of my Happy na, Birthday pa giveaway, I would like to say thank you to the sponsor of the prizes: Unilab, Mr. Jesse Rebustillo of Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) and Mapagbigay ka ba?
And of course, major major thanks also to all who gave time and effort to join this contest. I really had a hard time in choosing the winners. As in! If only I have enough prizes to give, I can come out with 10 winners. But I only got 5 prizes to give so to those who won’t win this time, I would like to invite you to join again in my upcoming promos/ contest. Some sponsors have already approached me for a tie-up and will post the contest in the near future.
Being a father to a 1-year old son, I can’t help but to be biased to entries featuring kids so I needed some help to be fair in choosing the winners. I consulted four other individuals to pick their top 3 out of the 49 entries that I received. I also took the suggestion to pick two (2) photos featuring adults and another pair featuring kids to level the playing field. Then I also decided to draw one winner via random.org.
So here are the four (4) runner-up winners who will each receive the following:
a. Giftpack from Unilab
b. Guyito stuffed toy from PDI
c. F & B World magazine (back issue) with a FREE recipe booklet inside
d. Sticky notepad and a pen
Winner no. 1 (c/o random.org): Rene del Rosario
Winner no. 2: Agnes DC
This is one of the first entries sent and has been a personal favorite since Day 1. It’s not everyday that you can make a big guy wear a party hat and pose with a white teddy and his chocolate cake. He must have been very very happy that day.
Winner no. 3: Ging Baarde Martirez
What I love in this photo more than the theme party is PIZZA which will forever have a place in my heart (and stomach, of course). It has been a tradition that my wife and I eat in a pizza parlor during our anniversary and birthday date since our first meal shared together as a couple is a box of slice of eight.
Winner no. 4: Josephine Soliman Gregorio
A baby in front of a birthday cake will always bring a priceless feeling to his parents. The photo seems simple but when you look at it a little longer, you can feel how proud and happy his dad and mom were while capturing this great moment on camera.
And the Grand Winner which will receive the following:
a. Php 2000 worth of Dental First GCs
b. Giftpack from Unilab
c. Guyito stuffed toy from PDI
c. F & B World magazine (back issue) with a FREE recipe booklet inside
d. Sticky notepad
(Drum rolls)...
Ronald Delima
The entry sender was just 2-years old in this photo. Look how happy he was with his Dad and birthday cake. His mom probably was the one taking the photo. Well during that time, the camera used here might still not have a self-timer option that’s why it’s only the two of them in the frame. What I’m actually trying to say is: this photo is a classic, literally and figuratively. We will forever be a our Dad’s little angel no matter what.
I also gave weight to Ronald’s effort to revisit his family photo album just to join the contest. Actually, I did the same thing after seeing his photo. Iba pa rin talaga ang mag-browse ng picture sa lumang photo album kesa digital album
To all the winners, that includes you Darwin, just leave your complete name and email address on the wall of Mapanghingi ka ba? FB fan page so I can send you the details on how to claim your prizes.
Again, congratulations to the winners and to all, thank you for sharing your photos, time and effort. ‘Till our next giveaway!

Just one of the many items from the Larry Alcala collection |
That's why I have high respect for cartoonists because they make reading more fun. I admire more those who can tell a story without using any text in his work. Take the case of the great Pinoy illustrator Larry Alcala whose Slice of Life is simply a joy to look at. His works not only give us something to smile about but it also showcases the "fun" in the Filipino life via his black and white strips. Another fun part is the fact that Larry Alcala always include a concealed image of himself in all his works.
Solo, a clothing line which heeds today’s generation’s pursuit of liberty, self-expression and individualism, has launched a Larry Alcala collection that will surely interest even those not familiar with Alcala's work (especially those who are living under the rock).
And the good news is, you have a chance to get a "slice" of that Larry Alcala collection. Just visit www.solo.com.ph and download a contest sheet/ comic illustration. Just spot the hidden head of the illustrator and send it to at marketing@solo.com.ph. Winners will be announced via Solo FB fan page. Just search for "Solo Online"

FREE tickets to Piolo Pascual's concert
I used to think that I am handsome. But when people like Piolo Pascual came into the picture and created a Papa P syndrome: meaning hindi ka pogi kung di mo kamukha si Piolo, my beliefs I have carried since birth was all shattered.
Well, it's not my concern now since my wife already assured me that I am more good looking than Piolo by her standards. That's why I have given her a deaf ear every time she complains about eye irritations and stuff that she want to consult an ophthalmologist.
Anyways here's the deal, Sun Life Financial placed this ad on Philippine Star today: FREE tickets to Private Time with Piolo Pascual.
This is a concert with the music genius Ryan Cayabyab with special guest Vina Morales, who happens to be my showbiz crush since high school... kabisado ka pa lyrics ng hit niyang Pers Lab, promise!
The Concert is happening at the Forum Tent, PICC on October 9, 2010 and as the ad indicated, anyone can get 2 FREE concert tickets and Php 50k personal insurance for one year (which made me ask, rock concert ba eto na may batuhan ng bote, hedbangan at slaman kaya kelangan me insurance pa with kasama yun ticket? Nagtatanong, Ate Charo)
To avail the promo, just call 849-9888 and leave your contact details. Viola! Promo period is up to Sept. 20 only! Limited seats lang daw kaya tawag na!

2010 Palanca Award winners
As a writer, I have yet to accomplish two things that I've been aiming for the longest time: (1) for me to publish a book and (2) to win a Palanca Award.

Solo's Larry Alcala Collection and Online Model Search
Larry Alcala is a well-known editorial cartoonist and illustrator. In his over 50 years of cartooning, he has made over 500 characters, twenty comic strips, six movies, two murals and 15,000 published pages. His most popular cartoon series was Slice of Life, which is a reflection of the many unique aspects of everyday life in the Philippines. Slice of Life received the Best in Humor award and was also cited for helping to keep alive the Filipino's ability to laugh at himself, through the lively marriage of art and humor, and through commentaries that are at once critical and compassionate, evoking laughter and reflection. Remember spending your Sundays looking for the concealed caricature of his face on Slice of Life? Now, you get to do this again!

Win Joey Ayala CDs
Whenever I hear the name Joey Ayala, the first thing that comes to my mind is his sentimental song "Walang Hanggang Paalam."
The title itself wanna make you listen to it and already draws emotion. What more if you did play it in your MP3 playsers... baka maiyak ka :-)
Here's my favorite line from the song which is actually the chorus part:
Ang pagibig natin ay
walang hanggang paalam
at habang magkalayo
papalapit pa rin ang puso
kahit na magkahiwalay
tayo ay magkasama
sa magkabilang dulo ng mundo
The words are strong and sincere. Nakakadala ng emosyon lalo na kung nasa rally ka sa mendiola :-)
Incidentally, Kartonista.com is giving away 3 Joey Ayala CDs. All you need to do is to (1) Leave a comment that answers this question, “What is your favorite Joey Ayala song?“ and (2) Follow the blog in NetworkedBlogs.
The other good news is every month, a featured prize will be given away until December 2010.
