Join the My Favorite Book, My Selfie 2014 and be the happiest bookworm this side of the globe! And here's how:

 1) Take a creative selfie with a book (or just the book) that’s had a significant value in your life, and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #MyFaveBookMySelfie2014.

2) Provide a 100-150 word caption with the title and author of the book, and a brief description.

3)Entries must ALSO be sent to myfavoritebook@nationalbookstore.com.ph with the following details: complete name, telephone number, cell phone number, Instagram name, and two paragraphs of personal background information.

4) Entries will be judged according to uniqueness and creativity of selfie (20 percent) and caption (80 percent).

Other mechanics

 1) The Philippine STAR will choose two winners every week.

 The first winner will be chosen by The Philippine STAR as the “Best Photo of the Week.” The second winner will be the entry with the most number of likes. The winners will be published every Sunday in the Philippine STAR and will be announced on Instagram. Each contestant is limited to one entry per week.

 2. Selected weekly winners will receive P2,500 worth of National Book Store gift certificates which they can pick up at the NBS Head Office or at the nearest NBS branch for provincial entries.

3.  At the end of the year, all winning weekly entries will be judged to determine ten (10) Grand Prize winners of P10,000 each (P5,000 worth of gift certificates and P5,000 in cash). Globe will also be giving away Globe Handyphones to the ten (10) Grand Prize winners. The ten (10) winning entries will be published in the Philippine Star.

4. All Lifestyle staff and columnists who have Instagram accounts will announce the contest on Instagram

Yesterday, I thought I would witness a miracle.

Nope. I did not see a sick man walked away from his wheelchair or saw Maegan Fox in person.  I was referring about an almost upset win by my UE Red Warriors over UAAP depending champs  Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Just want to share my "try and try until you succeed" experience

After three entries, I finally won in the joint contest of Philippine Star and National Bookstore "My Favorite Book" Contest.

My entry "What to Expect When She's Expecting" was published yesterday (June 19) and I want to thank them for picking my entry. I consider it as a Father's Day gift from God. Actually, I already got the best gift a father can ever have--- my son Charles.

Well, I was really hoping to win rather than expecting since my entry is about fatherhood. And it did! Aside form the Php 5000 worth of NBS GC that I won, I also have a chance to win in the Top 8 entries to be awarded at the end of the year. Top 3 entries will receive Php 50,000, Php 30,000 and Php 20,000 in cash and prizes while the other five honorable mention will get Php 5,000 each. Open Call for "Supreme" Writers for Philippine Star

Do you want to write for the Philippine Star?

Well if you are interested, there is an open call for writers this coming Saturday, June 12 at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati from 1 pm to 7 pm.

All you need to do is to bring a sample of your work (min of 500 words and max 1500 words) and you'll be tested via on-the-spot writing session by Supreme, a special section every Saturday edition of PS. Btw, Tim Yap is currently the Editor and Creative Director of Supreme.

I might drop by Dusit Thani this Saturday so kitakits na lang to my readers who will be there as well.

To those who are having second thoughts of jumping in, I would highly recommend joining in this event for those who want to have career in writing in the future. Even if you don;t make it, it will be a good start to be exposed in such activities and you might even meet new friends who share your interests and ides.

Plus, PS pays good. I should know since I've been a contributor for their Entertainment/ Lifestyle section for years. But I'll tell you, it's not the TF that matters. The feeling of seeing your work being published on a major newspaper is priceless.
