My Pilot Flipbook Contest

Back during my school days (please don't ask what year because we have a lot of counting to do), I have some trusted brands of school supplies that I always tell my Nanay to buy.

From my notebooks to my school bag and markers to my pens, I have preferred brands because of their durability and dependability. Coming from a family of six children, we don't have the luxury to buy school items every month. I've been taught to be practical at an early age, and beside, I was a working student then so I see to it that what we buy is worth every cent we spent because they are hard-earned.

One brand I still use until today is Pilot ballpen. I'm sure I am not the only one who share the same sentiments towards this trusted name. Pilot has been with me for such a long time that I have probably written kilometers of words and drawings through the years.

Toby's Give it your Best Shot video contest

I think it safe to say that almost all of us have an athlete that we look up to.  How you wish you could shoot like Michael Jordan, punch like Manny Pacquaio or run like Usain Bolt.

Well, you might want to try and pretend like them and capture your moves in a video and you could win yourself gift certificates from Toby's Sports and get all the sports apparel and stuff that you've been dreaming of since you thought you can be a heck of a player.

How to Join:

• Participants may join by creating a video (video should not exceed 2 minutes) that shows his or her best move like dunking on the ring, smashing a tennis ball, kicking a football etc.
• The video should be posted on Toby’s Sports official fan page (http://www.facebook.com/Tobysstore) to be counted as an official entry.
• Participants may use any video sharing site (ex. Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo etc.) as long as it can be viewed by other people when posted in Toby’s Sports official fan page.

• Participants must encourage their friends to share their video.

Safety Precautions:

• Participants must ensure that safety precautions (ex. Warm-up, stretching, conditioning, medical check-ups, etc.) are taken into consideration before performing their move. Protective gear must also be worn at all times during the video. Toby’s Sports will not be liable for any injuries, traumas, accidents or fatalities that may occur during the filming of the video.

• Participants must get official permission from the person who owns the place where they are going to shoot the video. Toby’s sports will not be liable for damage to property, trespassing and the like.

All Participants Shall Attest to the Following:

• Participants must be residents of the Philippines in order for their entry to be valid.
• The video must not have any special effects that will give an unfair advantage to a participant’s sports move.

• The participant must ensure that he or she is the person doing the move in the video in order for the entry to be valid.

• There can only be one entry per person. If you wish to change your entry you must delete your old video. Two or more entries will disqualify you from the contest.

• Toby’s Sports has the right to remove and disqualify videos which are deemed as offensive, vulgar, hateful, racist, and the like.

• Toby’s sports has full rights to use your video in any way, shape, or form.

Criteria for Judging:

• 50% - Wow factor and difficulty of the move
• 30% - Creativity and originality
• 20% - Number of shares and number of positive comments

PMAP High Flyers Video Making Contest

The People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) is a fifty year old national association of top HR practitioners in the country. With about 1,800 member companies, PMAP helps institutions mold an enlightened, competent, socially responsible and influential sector of people managers who can effectively participate in nation-building.

Part of PMAP’s thrust is to work closely with academe to ensure the availability of talent for the current and future requirements of industry. For this purpose, the Academe-Industry Committee has been working with the Coordinating Council of Private Education Associations (CoCoPEA) and a Memorandum of Agreement has been signed.

Fact: 400,000 college students graduate in the Philippines every year. In a 2006 survey of PMAP member companies, it showed that 40% of applicants fail in their job interviews and most of these fresh graduates. Moreover, most of them fail not because of lack of technical skills but rather, they lack key behavioral competencies necessary to perform in typical office situations. The top three behavioral competencies were: Initiative, Communication Skills , and Critical Thinking.

In 2009, PMAP, through its Academe Industry Committee, has therefore invested in an audio visual presentation (AVP) entitled “Book Smart is Not Enough” to highlight these key skills. The objective is to create a desire among students to develop these behavioral skills. PMAP also wants to make sure that the message is positively received by the students. The target group are incoming first year college students because PMAP believes they, compared to upperclassmen, will have enough time to develop these skills. The format is adapted to the mindset of a typical youth where comedy is used to increase retention and creative use of copy to incite action. The AVP has been successfully distributed and shown in various universities and colleges.

For this year, PMAP created the “High Flyers Campaign” video-making contest which aims to continue the campaign and reach the youth more effectively through an interactive activity, where they will not only participate and exhibit the three (3) behavioral competencies but gain a much coveted reward in the end. The term High Flyers is a metaphor for the kind of youth that we believe to be winners, not just for the contest but for the rest of their lives, since they are more assured of jobs and a secure future.

To create a high level of awareness, PMAP has partnered with Dingdong Dantes as the campaigns’ official endorser. The young actor along with PMAP Director Ana Marie Bongato and Academe-Industry Committee Chair Binky Kilayko formally launched the contest at Hotel Intercon, Makati City last November 24, 2010.

Dantes explained the importance of developing the three (3) behavioral competencies and also invite students to join the PMAP and SEAIR Search for the High Flyers. The contest is open to students 16-21 years of age and it will run from November 25, 2010 until February 28, 2011. Grand prizes include trips to Boracay and Singapore. I miss blogging for weeks now.  As much as I want to post new contest sightings, work has been my priority in the past few days.  Well, after a big event in Cebu last month, we are organizing a presscon this month with one of the country's top leading men today--- Mr. Dingdong Dantes.

Doon Po Sa Amin Video Blog Contest

How proud are you about your community?

Well, just forget about the everyday traffic jams, petty crimes and stinky garbage in the neighborhood and for sure you'll come out with a positive response.

It just happened that I found out about this Ano ang Kwento Mo?" (What's your story?) Contest which is open to all private and public high school teachers and students nationwide. It is a contest where teacher-student teams are engaged to create video blogs to feature a distinct characteristic, place, or culture in their communities.

What's good about this contest is that a student group of up to ten (10) members can brainstorm and join forces in coming out of a video blog (using free services blogger.com, blog.com or wordpress.com) telling the great story of their communities.

Php 30,000 awaits the Grand Champion (student group) with four runner-ups winning Php 10,000 each. Two special awards of Php 5,000 will also be given away for the Best in Blog site design and layout and Best in Student collaboration.

I remember during my years in grade school, I envied this boy from another section because he has this trick that no matter I tried to practice and imitate, i always end up with a sour face.

He is an awesome pen spinner! He can spin a pen or a pencil using his fingers even with his eyes closed. I was really amaze. Actually until now since I was not able to learn the skill.

I wonder where he is now.
