Shop, Play & Win at Tutuban

Going to Divisoria is one shopping event I always look forward to.  Well aside from the big discounts and  wide-array of cool items to see, being there brings great memories since I used to frequent the place when I was just a college student at UE Manila

One of my favorite hang-out is Tutuban Center because everything I need is in there--- at affordable prices.

Today, as it continues to be the leading shopping destination in the metropolis, Tutuban center launches its latest promo, the “Shop, Play & Win—Instant Panalo, Kapalit ng Resibo.”

The promo, which will run from July 13 to August 31, 2012, is open to all Tutuban Centermall shoppers with official or tape receipts with dates corresponding to the promo period of “Shop, Play & Win.”

To be able to play, players must first register at the redemption area located at the Ground Floor lobby of Tutuban Centermalll 2 and present their receipts from any Centermall store as proof of purchase. A Tutuban Properties, Inc. (TPI) representative will then validate the receipt and once validated, shoppers will get the chance to win premium items by playing exciting games like “Roll-The-Dice,” “Pachinko” and “Roulette.”

For the “Roll-The-Dice” game, shoppers must present receipts worth P50 up to P150 to be able to play the game. A player will be given one (1) try per game, where he will roll 2 dice on the board. The result shown on the dice will determine the player’s prize.

As for the “Pachinko” game, receipts worth P151 up to P300 are valid for play. A player will also be given a single try to roll a ball down the “Pachinko” board into a specific slot, which has a corresponding prize.

Lastly, for the “Roulette,” each player who will present a receipt worth P301 and up is also given a single try to spin the roulette wheel and win an equivalent prize.

Winners can play their prize immediately after playing. All players will be given the chance to play more than once in a day but only on the date specified in the receipt. Tutuban Properties, Inc. will implement a “no receipt, no play” policy.

Redemption is daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. only.

For more details, visit Tutuban Center along C.M. Recto Avenue in Manila.

Vote for Wok-A-Holic Star, Win a gift from Electrolux

Who among the 14 finalists will be the Electrolux Wok-A-Holic Kitchen Star?

If there is one thing in me that I really want to improve, it's my cooking skill.

Well, I am not really a bad cook but I just want to explore more dishes beyond frying. I am an expert on scrambled eggs, a guru on any fried fish and the Jedi Master of lechon kawali.  Any dish that requires mixing more than two ingredients, I need a cook book beside me if you want an edible serving when I came out of the kitchen.

That's why I'm beginning to love watching cooking show on TV. And what a treat when I was invited to the Electrolux Wok-A-Holic Kitchen Star boot camp/ cooking competition held at Walter Mart North Edsa where I met all the 14 finalists who are cutting, chopping and slicing their way in to win the title. (I just hope you love the use of words in that last sentence).

Astig chefs meet Astig Machimis
Even though I was just watching on the sideline and not actually a participant of the boot camp, I learned new tip and tricks from top celebrity chefs Bruce Lim, Jonathan Bautista and Rosebud Benitez. That's why, when I grow up I want to be a chef, too. :)

Among the participants, I am personally rooting for Belinda Custodio who just reminds me of my mom in many ways.  She has an ala-Maalaala Mo Kaya story to tell but I need not mention it since I believe that her perseverance to win will be her key to the cooking challenge.

Belinda at wok... I mean at work

She sums up why she loves to cook with a soon-to-be-classic line worthy of a sequence in any of the primetime soap opera, "Kung mahal mo ang iyong pamilya, mahalin mo ang pagluluto."

She wants to win for her children and homesicked husband based in Saudi Arabia. I just want Belinda to have a taste of good life and savor sweet victory thus I am supporting her the way to win. You too can show your support by voting for her via The Little White Book on Facebook.

As a bonus in showing your support to Nanay Belinda to be the Electrolux Philippine Wok-A-Holic Kitchen Star, you will be qualified to win some attractive prizes from Electrolux.  You have until June 7, 2012 to vote as the Electrolux Wok-A-Holic Kitchen Star will be announced the following day at Cash and Carry Mall, Makati City.

And so I say, iboto na si Nanay Belinda! Now na!

Open to all amateur cooks, Wok-A-Holic will hold a Kitchen Star Boot Camp for its Top 12 participants featuring Wok-A-Holic judge and celebrity chef, Chef Bruce Lim as headmaster. Join Electrolux Design Lab 2012

Filipinos have always proven their creativity can be put on top with the best of the best worldwide. How many times have we heard Pinoy designers of accessories and gowns to softwares and games conquered international competitions.

This year, Electrolux Design Lab, on it's 10th Anniversary, invites international design students to join in another challenge that is tied to Electrolux professional heritage in a theme that stimulates all senses.

Electrolux Design Lab is a global annual design competition inviting students and recent graduates of industrial design to compete for a six-month paid internship and prize money by submitting ideas that develop the sensory experience of home appliances. This year the jury will also take special note of the aesthetic qualities of the concept and the way textures and surface materials have been used.

Eight finalists will each be invited to participate in a final event in the autumn of 2012 held within a European city (to be announced) to present their individual concept to a jury of expert designers. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation, aesthetic qualities and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.

As demonstrated in the Cube by Electrolux, the world of professional cooking is all about the experience. It’s not about achieving the perfect inner temperature of a steak for the sake of science or performance. It’s about designing the best possible experience for your guests. The creative force behind the experience is the merger of intuitive and innovative appliances with the creativity of the chef and carefully selected high quality ingredients.

The brief for Electrolux Design Lab 2012 challenges design students to draw inspiration from professional experience creators (chefs, architects, interior designers, hotel designers etc.) to design home appliances that will provide a fuller sensory experience. It might be through state of the art technology or it might be through a clever blend of textures and surfaces

Entrants will also need to consider the heritage of Electrolux. Submissions should reflect Scandinavian Design values by being sensitive to the environment, providing intuitive ease of use and aesthetic appeal

“I believe the importance of our sensory perception is underestimated in a lot of today’s design. Too much importance is accorded to the visual. What if we could incorporate our other senses into design? Could we smell who’s calling? Or feel what’s on TV?” says Henrik Otto SVP of Global Design at Electrolux.

Deadline for entry is June 1, 2012 via the Electrolux Design Lab website: www.electrolux.com/designlab.

Mapanghingi ka ba? Readers win Kitchen Showcase

One of the best feeling that anyone can experience is the joy of winning.

Whether it's cash from a raffle draw or a gadget from an online promotion, the happiness of being "I'm lucky today!" is such a moment worth reminiscing that you wish for more to come.

That's why I was surprised to find out that two of my blog readers actually won the top spots of the nationwide contest Electrolux Man Knock on Your Door video contest.  Ronald De Lima and Samuel Duque each won a kitchen showcase composed of a 3-door ref, gas range, coffee maker and a microwave oven.  See their winning videos below:

I was just happy that through my blog, I made two people spend a happier Christmas this year with a truck-load of winnings (literally and figuratively).  Thus, I got a shower of praises and thank yous from them:

Ronald: "Thanks Richard for convincing me to join this video contest. I never thought I could win this one...I thought of backing out but you and my wife convinced me otherwise."

Samuel: "Thank you, thank you talaga! Two years na akong hinihiritan ng mommy ko ng gas range. At eto sa pagsali ko pala sa contest matutupad."

And as I promised that if at least twenty (20) of my readers will join in this contest, I will raffle off some prizes to the participants.  I personally choose the videos of Bobzkie and Nova from the non-winning entries. Both of you will win a laptop bag each. Please email your contact info and mailing address to astig316@yahoo.com.

Thank you to all who have joined and happy holidays to everyone!

I am a Certified Foodie!

Believe it or not, Pizza is older than the Philippines.  That is if we will based such statement to the historical findings that this food has existed since time immemorial in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. By 997 the term had appeared in Medieval Latin, and in 16th century Naples a Galette flatbread was referred to as a pizza. A dish of the poor people, it was sold in the street and was not considered a kitchen recipe for a long time.

Today, this food treat "intended" for poor people is a favorite of people from all walks in like.  You live in a mansion or a high-end condominium and still crave for a bite of a slice of this mouth-watering dish, whatever the toppings are (My personal favorites are pineapples and/ or mushrooms).  Same goes with the masa who can get a slice or two for less than P50 from  fast food chains or stand alone stalls in their neighborhood.

I am a certified foodie. And on top of my fave hunger buster is pizza.  For one, it was the very first meal that I shared with my wife.  Now, it has always been a tradition that we eat pizza for special occasions for the sentimental reason or just simply because of it's unique and delicious taste and presence in almost all menus.

The Yahoo Puple Hunt is on!

How time flies. If it wasn’t for my niece asking if she could borrow a mono block chair that she’ll use in their graduation rites practice, I’ll still find it hard to believe that it’s already March. To think I still have a wrapped Christmas present lying on my table because one of my godson did not visit me last December. But no one can stop summer time from coming!

Some of you might have already booked flights to Boracay or other great destinations in the South but I want to make vacation time more productive by spending more time browsing the net and YMs, listening to radio, watching TV, going to the Trinoma and watch out for Hyundai cars passing by the street.

Don't you ever call me a bum if I do it for the next 5 weeks because I will be doing all these things to get a chance to win a brand new car and other exciting prizes. You still don't believe me? You might haven't heard of the Yahoo Purple Hunt 2.0 launched just a few days ago?

WARNING: Joining the contest might ruin your plan and schedule until April 17--- dates with BF/ GF and BFFs, eating habits, movie marathon with friends, Senakulo acting commitment, trip to Splash Island, and what ever stuff you have in mind. But it's worth it for the chance of winning a brand new car. Just ask Calvin Galgana.

Do you think you have a Whapakk Pose?

I remember back in college, I often encounter a dilemma going to school not because I have failed to review for our quiz or finish my assignment.  I don't do homework at home. I do it in our school library.  I review my notes while on board a jeepney on my way home or going to school.  That's the normal life for a working student like me.

My issue then is the fact that I only have two pairs of pants, a few shirts to go along with my Chucks.  Back then, I was always on a hunt for GF-material prospects that will be my wife after seven years.  I am not vain. I just want to look good in the few options I have in our cabinet.  That's why I spend a little more time in front of the mirror and do my astig pogi pose.

Nowadays, they call it the whapakk pose.  And if you think you one that can get some attention, I have a good news for you.  SanMig Strong Ice has just launched the Whapakk Pose Promo where you can win cases of SanMig Strong Ice and other exciting prizes like jackets and shotgunnators.

The contest is open to Philippine residents aged 18 years old and above. Participants need to have an account in Facebook and "Like" the San Mig Strong Ice Fan Page to join.  With a bottle or can of SanMig Strong Ice, do that whapakk pose and it could be your way to a fun-filled drinking spree with your barkada.

Visit the official website of SanMig Strong Ice for more details.

Mapanghingi ka ba? 1st Anniversary Giveaway: Winner ka ba?

Last month, I launched the first anniversary contest of this blog and raised the question: Mapanghingi ka ba?

Only a few dared to answer the question which still does not mean I had an easy time choosing the winner. First, I would like to thank all those who joined the contest and also those who showered me with kind words for the 1st birthday of this contest blog.

I would like to give a special mention to the following entry senders who almost got my nod until the best entry came:

1. Mapanghingi Nga Ba Ako? by Ronald De Lima who sums it up with "Kaya, hindi masama humingi. Hindi nakakahiyang sabihin na umaasa pa tayo na makakuha ng mas-maganda. Humihingi tayo dahil kailangan natin Siya."

2. Mapanghingi ka ba? by Melandria Romero who is also a believer of St. Anthony of Padua. Just like her, I often asked for His help every time I lost something or I long for anything. That's why I named my first son Charles Antony after him. Like Melandria, our child came after a failed pregnancy. Indeed, we should not loose hope after every fall. Just keep the faith alive and soon you'll be blessed. That should be the motto of every certified Mapanghingi.

3. Sino ang Mapanghingi? by Rolly Nuñez who I can relate with. Isa siyang kapatid, kasambahay, kapamilya, at kapuso. Malapit sa aking puso, itinuturing na pamilya, at aking minamahal."

Actually, I was already playing iniminiminimo among the three entries until I got an entry via Mapanghingi ka ba? FB fan page with an amusing and cool video. For his effort to come up with an MTV to show the Mapanghingi side in him, I would like to congratulate Mov'z Gonzales for winning Mapanghingi ka ba? 1st Anniversary Giveaway! Please send me an email at astig316 <@)> yahoo com so I can send you the details on how to claim the prize.

Mov's declared, "Mapanghingi ba ako? Siguro? Oo? Kung willing namang ibigay at libre ang isang bagay bakit hindi mo hingin. Sa mundo natin ngayon, lahat ng bagay may katapat na halaga kaya kung may pagkakataon tayong makakuha ng libre bakit hindi natin subukan huwag lang sosobrahan dahil ang lahat ng sobra alam naman... natin kung minsan nakakasama. isa akong certified na mapanghingi."

Well said, bro. Now, here is his winning entry:

Get Hired and Win an Apple iPad

While riding an FX going to a mall a few weeks ago, I overheard a college student (maybe from CEU based on her uniform) saying to her schoolmate, "Pagka-graduate ko, hanap agad ng trabaho para may pambili ng iPad."

Applicants will be prompted to include the URL where they saw this job post, so kindly indicate mapanghingikaba.blogspot.com.

To that hopeful CEU stude and to all job seekers, good luck in job hunting and hope you win an Apple iPad.
